Job description
Nature Seychelles seeks to hire 2 Scientific Divers for a period of 3 months based on Praslin island. The post holder will participate in coral collection, nursery construction and filling, scientific monitoring, transplantation of nursery-grown colonies, etc. He or she will be able to conduct up to three dives a day, work long hours both on a boat and underwater, and also help the permanent project staff with data analysis, report writing, and other project-related tasks (tanks filling, boat and dive equipment preparation and maintenance, communication, etc.).
Principal skills and requirements
- MSc in conservation or marine science
- Previous experience working in tropical marine conservation and/or research (coral and fish monitoring are an asset)
- Certified diver (minimum Divemaster) with significant scuba diving experience
- Boat driving license (RYA powerboat level 2 or equivalent) and some practice of diving boat driving
- High physical fitness and ability to work in harsh conditions
- Underwater photography & dive equipment maintenance are assets
- Statistical packages and scientific data analysis
- Ability to learn, appreciate and operate effectively in multi-cultural teams
Contract conditions
- 3 months paid volunteer contract
- Allowance of R7,000/month (about Eur 466/month)
- Return international ticket
- Shared accommodation
- Diving insurance to be provided by the volunteer
